How to Get to Eilat: Fly to Ramon, Take the Bus or Drive?

6 min read

In short: There are three ways to get to Eilat. You can fly to Ramon Airport, about 20 km north of the city, take an intercity bus, or drive through the Arava. Flying saves time, the bus saves you the driving, and a car gives you freedom to explore on the way and around the city.

You are standing with the suitcases and the kids, asking yourself: fly, drive or hop on a bus? The answer depends on where you start from, the size of your group and how much time you have. Let's go through the options one by one.

How to get to Eilat: fly to Ramon, take the bus or drive?

Eilat is far from the center of the country, so the way you choose matters more than it seems. Here is the short comparison:

  • Flight: The fastest option for anyone coming from far away or wanting to save hours on the road. Also comfortable for couples and families with small children.

  • Bus: Good if you don't want to drive and don't need a car in Eilat. There are lines from the Gush Dan area, from Jerusalem and from Beer Sheva.

  • Car: The most flexible. Suits families with a lot of gear and anyone who wants to explore beyond the city.

Flying to Ramon Airport

Ramon Airport serves Eilat and the surrounding area and is about 20 km north of the city. You can read more about it on Wikipedia. It is the most convenient way to arrive if you are coming from far away.

Flights and flight times change from season to season, so check with the airlines before you fix your dates. We don't publish schedules or ticket prices here because they change all the time.

How do you get from the airport to the city?

It is about 20 km from the airport to central Eilat. You can take a taxi, book a shuttle or rent a car at the airport. If you arrive with kids and gear, a taxi or a direct shuttle to your apartment saves a lot of stress.

Local tip: Landing before 15:00? Don't wait around in someone else's lobby. On Neviot Street we have a dedicated luggage room, so you can drop your bags and head straight to the sea.

Taking the bus to Eilat

The bus to Eilat is the cheap and relaxed option, with no pressure of a long drive. Intercity bus lines run to Eilat from the Gush Dan area, from Jerusalem and from Beer Sheva. Check schedules and prices on the public transport websites, because they change.

A few things worth knowing:

  • On Shabbat, public transport is very limited in most of the country, so plan your arrival and departure ahead.

  • On weekends and holidays the buses are fuller, so it is worth booking a seat before you travel.

  • From the station to the hotel area in the city center it is a short taxi ride.

Save: On the bus you don't pay for fuel and parking, and our apartments have a full kitchenette. Traveling without a car saves you twice.

Driving to Eilat

Driving to Eilat gives you the most freedom. You take your gear, ice, toys and whatever else you like, and stop wherever you want. The common route goes through the Arava on Route 90, with long stretches of open desert.

What should you know before you set out?

  1. Fill up before the long stretches and don't wait until the last minute.

  2. Bring plenty of water, even if the road looks easy.

  3. Drive in daylight as much as possible and stop for breaks with the kids.

  4. Check road conditions and the weather forecast on the Eilat weather forecast site before you leave.

In Eilat itself there is free public parking outside all of our buildings. The apartments at 23 Neviot Street also have free private parking, subject to availability.

What suits you? A quick checklist

  • A couple leaving from the Gush Dan area for a weekend: Fly, or drive if you want to explore on the way.

  • A family with 3 kids and gear: Drive, since there is no weight limit and no loading and unloading of shuttles.

  • Friends without a car: Take the bus, then walk around the city.

  • Coming from the north and want to save time: Fly to Ramon and take a shuttle into the city.

  • Want to explore the craters and the wadi: Drive. You can read about ideas for a long weekend in Eilat.

How do you get to our apartments?

City Apartments Eilat are in the hotel area in the city center, behind the Club Hotel. From there it is a 5-10 minute walk to the promenade, the North Beach and the mall by the sea. The streets are Neviot, Tzofit and Topaz.

There is no apartment with a sea view or on the waterfront, but once you arrive you don't need a car for most evenings. Here is what happens on arrival day:

  • Check-in from 15:00 and check-out by 11:00.

  • On the morning of arrival we send you a personal door code, so there is no waiting for a key.

  • Code not working? Call or WhatsApp 08-6338361.

  • On arrival day we send a credit card deposit request, and we do not accept cash.

Insider tip: The personal code is sent on the morning of arrival as a message on the booking platform, and usually by SMS or WhatsApp too. Didn't get it? Send us a WhatsApp and we will send it again.
Insider tip: We don't accept cash, so it is worth keeping a valid credit card with you on the way, so the deposit doesn't hold you up at the door.

Arriving as a large group? Studio 1 suits up to 4 guests, and the 2-bedroom apartment suits a family of up to 5. You can see all the options on the apartments page.
